Dermaplaning vs. Microdermabrasion

Both dermaplaning and microdermabrasion are non-invasive, physical exfoliation treatments that remove dead skin cells and improve skin texture, but they use different tools and target different concerns.

Dermaplaning

Method: Uses a sterile, surgical-grade scalpel blade to gently scrape away the top layer of dead skin and fine facial hair (vellus hair or "peach fuzz").
Hair Removal: Yes—removes vellus hair completely.
Best For: Dull skin, peach fuzz, sensitive skin types, and creating a smooth base for makeup.
Downtime / Sensation: Zero downtime; painless.
Frequency: Every 3 to 4 weeks.
Cautions: Avoid if you have active acne breakouts.

Microdermabrasion

Method: Uses a handheld device with a diamond-tipped wand or fine crystal spray combined with vacuum suction to polish away dead skin and clear pores.
Hair Removal: No—does not remove facial hair.
Best For: Mild acne scars, enlarged pores, sun spots, fine lines, and thicker or oilier skin.
Downtime / Sensation: Minimal to none; may feel a mild tingling or suction sensation (possible temporary light redness).
Frequency: Every 4 to 6 weeks.
Cautions: May be too harsh for very sensitive skin, rosacea, or active inflammatory acne.
